A Week of Hawaiian Fireworks Thursday, July 1, 2010 Pot luck Aunti Maiki talk story: Kumu Maile Bring a dish and $15 128 Manhattan Avenue A graduate of legendary kumu hula Maiki Aiu Lake's FIRST ‘ūniki class (papa ‘ūniki lehua) Maile Yamanaka is an accomplished chanter and storyteller as well as kumu hula. As the hālau kokua for Aunti Maiki, Maile brings a unique perspective on Maiki's legacy. She studied all aspects of Maiki's hālau repertoire (keiki, teens, kāne, gracious ladies) as well as stagecraft. Born on Hawai`i Island, Yamanaka has spent the past 30 years teaching the art of hula and storytelling in various schools. 10% discount if you register for more than one event.
