COMPANY BIO
In 1975 Robert Uluwehi Cazimero formed Hālau Nā Kamalei with six Hawaiian men. Dedicating his energy to the vanishing tradition of male hula, Robert has inspired hundreds of men to carry on this art form. Hālau Nā Kamalei, one of the most respected male hālau, has won major hula competitions and paves the way for generations of men to express themselves through dance.

Cazimero learned the ways of hula from prolific teacher Ma ‘iki Aiu Lake, who taught him to express all he experienced through the dance form. This expression and a deep understanding of hula lineage, the actual tracing of a dancer’s history, is an important concept engrained in all members of Hālau Nā Kamalei.

Hālau Nā Kamalei has performed around the world, from the stages of Carnegie Hall in New York to Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Tokyo, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle.
