Luana Haraguchi
Artist Biography
Luana Haraguchi was born on the Island of Kaua`I and moved to New York when she was just ten years old. She continued to return to Hawai`i to further her studies
in hula under the late kumu hula Iolani Luahine.
On May 1, 1968, Luana opened Halau Hula O Na Mele ‘Aina O Hawai’i, named by her late kumu hula, holding classes in her Upper East Side studio apartment. From its
small roots flourished a group that comprised of dedicated students who were interested in learning hula and Hawaiian traditions. In addition to teaching hula for over 50 years, Haraguchi also runs a professional Polynesian dance company and Hawaiian artists shows, in addition to the halau.
