Marq Johnson
Artist Biography
Of African-American and Native descent, Marq is originally from Hawaii and moved to Germany at a young age where he studied traditional German theatre and music. He has been featured in lead roles in over 20 stage productions in the United States and Europe. It was in Germany where Flamenco piqued his interest. Upon moving back to Hawaii, he danced for the Hawaii State Ballet Company as Cavalier under the leadership of Ballet Master John Landovsky. Additionally, he has studied
multiple styles of dance including commercial, Soviet Syllabus Ballet, Flamenco, Spanish Ballet (with castanets), hip hop, salsa, bachata, cha-cha, street jazz, contemporary, modern and hula.
He has been featured in multiple national commercials, motion pictures, and television shows such as Fox Films, Netflix, NBC, ABC, ‘Ōlelo Community Media, Armed Forces Network. He has worked alongside such entertainers as Katy Perry, the Migos, Ben Affleck, Amy Schumer, and Henry Kapono. Recently, he was invited to participate in the Flamenco and Spanish dance program at Jacob’s Pillow under the leadership of Carmela Greco (daughter of Jose Greco), Carmen Ledesma, and Irene Rodriguez. He currently studies Flamenco under Soledad Barrio. In his spare time, he coordinates musical productions of enriching cultural events serving as artistic director and stage director. Marq can speak multiple languages including Japanese, Spanish and German. Additionally, he is proficient in martial arts including Karate, Hae San Taekwondo, Kung-Fu and Ninjutsu.
