Come build scents from memory with Roger Alcain, founder of Mahulife.com. We'll reminisce about childhood memories, travels across the ponds, and our first leis, and we'll build scents that bring them all back in this fun workshop.
About Roger:
Roger J. Alcain is a dreamer with a passion for life, a travel addict with an endless curiosity to see and learn. He was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawai'i in the town of Kona and is currently based in New York City. The idea behind his brand Māhū and it's products comes from a wish to share a piece of himself and where he comes from with the world. He believes that everyone's happy space should be celebrated, and that being in between is a wonderful place to be!
Directors Dean Hammer and Joe Wilson in collaboration with Kumu Hina, give us The Rogers –An intimate glimpse into the lives of those who formed the first visible group of transgender men in the Pacific Islands; and Lady Eva – We meet the irrepressible Eva Baron, a young transgender woman, as she explores the clash between traditional culture and modern religious zealotry through a raw yet tender portrait of a determined Tonga leiti.
Can't make it to the screening? A repeat film screening will be held on September 10, 2020.
The Rogers is still streaming on PBS with another film from Aotearoa. https://www.pbs.org/video/born-this-way-awas-storythe-rogers-auxfft/ Discussion guide for The Rogers and other films available here: https://www.piccom.org/pages/season-nine-1 You can follow The Rogers here: https://www.facebook.com/The-Rogers-Faatama-SamoaLGBTQI-577108079310286 |
