Welcoming the Hokule'a
A kipaepae is a traditional Hawaiian welcoming ceremony. Halawai is organizing the kipaepae segment of the Hokule'a's arrival, and we'd love to have you join us! To train the community to participate, cultural expert Kauila Kanaka'ole, who's leading our portion of the protocol, will be holding a series of workshops. You don't need to be able to make it every practice to participate, but we do ask that you attend as many as your schedule allows. There is a $50 fee to participate, which will cover all sessions and materials you'll need, including the kihei you'll wear at the event, and payment plans and scholarships are offered. Please bring water, note-taking supplies, lozenges, and snacks or lunch as needed. Email [email protected] for more information.
